Bowie, MD—Soccer Means More (SocMM) will hold its first ever “SocMM Workshop,” a free three-hour community event for boys and girls of all soccer playing backgrounds, to be held at Holy Trinity Episcopal Day School (Glenn Dale, MD) November 5, 2011 from 1-4PM.

Have your children ever just wanted to try out soccer to see if it is right for them? Or have you been wondering if Soccer Means More is right for you? Then come join Soccer Means More for an event that is the first of its kind in the DC Metropolitan area. Even if you just want to see what’s happening in your community, come on out! Everyone’s welcome!

The purpose of the workshop is to give as many children from the DC Metro area an opportunity to enjoy two-plus hours of progressive SocMM training with some great coaches and local professional players bookended by two speeches, one from Executive Director Nate Baker and one from a guest speaker, about the lessons we can learn from the game and why soccer truly means more.

SocMM Community Update: Chris Murphy

Annapolis, MD—One of the great things about training motivated and positive individuals is being able to watch them blossom on other platforms, while overcoming numerous obstacles.

Broadneck High School (Annapolis, MD) sophomore and SocMM alum Chris Murphy has started off the year in stellar form for his JV team this season.   Over the Labor Day weekend,
Chris did it all leading his Broadneck side to two victories (1-0 and 3-0).

In the first game, Chris led from the back providing direction and stellar defensive play to get the first shutout victory of the weekend.  In the second game he played, Broadneck wasn’t generating enough offense, so Chris got a run up top right before the end of the first half.  Within one minute, Chris had tallied his first goal of the season.

Chris personifies SocMM’s belief that a great hard-work-based mentality is the the key to success in any arena, but Chris has had to work extra hard for everything he has earned to this point.

Annapolis, MD–Another SocMM alum has been making waves at the start of the high school season…

Broadneck High School sophomore Henry Welsh (middle of picture in his Broadneck soccer shirt) was named by the Annapolis based newspaper The Capital as one of their “Players to Watch” and was the only underclassman mentioned in the entire article.  Henry currently starts in the center of the midfield for the Bruins.

Henry participated in SocMM’s spring session and in two summer sessions including our “High School Prep Week”.
