ANNOUNCEMENT: Change in Upcoming Winter Sessions and All Following Seasonal Sessions

Winter Session $100 deal

Soccer Means More is excited and proud to announce that from here on out our seasonal sessions (Winter, Spring and Fall) will be $100.00.

SocMM seasonal sessions are elite training sessions that take place once a week for six weeks. They are 90 minutes long, and are the perfect mixture of on-the-ball and off-the-ball training. Each session has a 1:6 or 1:8 coach to player ratio. Hard work, discipline and the importance of education are some of the many values emphasized in each session.

These are the perfect opportunity for a player to sharpen their skills during the off-season, and/or to compliment the training received during recreational, club or school practice. We hope you’ll join us on the field to celebrate the beautiful game. Sign up for a winter session by clicking here today!

Fall Sessions are Huge Success (Plus Profile of Fall Participant Rowan Browne)

Soccer Means More’s Fall sessions finished up on a great note this past Sunday (November 13, 2011) and we were happy to see a lot of new faces mix in with some former SocMM alum.

The players worked hard for six sessions, while working on a progressive curriculum highlighted by Coach Ryan’s “off-the-ball” workouts.  Sleds, bullet-belts, bungee cords and more…if you or the motivated player in your family don’t recognize the preceding terms, let coach Ryan introduce them to you personally!

Also, the boys and girls were able to get great “on-the-ball” sessions not only with coach Nate, but with the two other staff coaches (Daryl Ferguson and Larry Mark).  At the last session, the kids got to work with all four coaches on staff and received the individual attention that has become a staple of our seasonal sessions.

At the end, all participants went home with a hand-written evaluation that supplied them with information on what he/she did well, needs to work on and ways to get better.

One of our Fall session participants was 8-year old Rowan Browne.  Rowan is a lively, left-footed spirit that seemed to not only enjoy the sessions but improved during the course of the six-week program.

We’ve asked him a few questions about the sessions, but we’ve also posted a highlight video that was put together from his play for his club team (Freestate Dragons) this past fall (you’ll be amazed by some of the ability he shows on the ball).  Please read and take a look at the video.  Rowan is a great example of the type of players we love to have at our sessions.  He’s motivated; he listens and works hard to get better at every session.

Winter Session Dates Announced

Almost 10 months ago, Soccer Means More ran their first ever seasonal session (winter) at Queen Anne’s gym in Upper Marlboro, MD.  Twelve motivated players (pictured) worked hard for six, 90-minute sessions, while taking part in the “half on-the-ball, half off-the-ball” workouts that have become a staple of the SocMM seasonal session. We’re excited and proud to announce that we’re gearing up for another round of winter sessions with more options for all players. It is important to note that one of those winter sessions is coming up in December, so there is only a limited time to sign up. Please see below for a description. Then sign up your player today!

Our Facebook followers will be able to access daily coupons toward the winter session and other SocMM giveaways.  We will be posting one-day specials and unique opportunities that only our followers on Facebook can access, so please “like” us on Facebook, so you don’t miss out!  You can “like” our Facebook page by clicking the like button in the upper right corner of the website or by clicking here.

SocMM Winter Program (December 2011-February 2012):

SocMM Fall Workshop is Huge Success

Thank you Workshop Featured

Disclaimer: The following is a first-hand written account by SocMM Executive Director Nate Baker

I couldn’t be happier with how the day turned out.  We were fortunate to have great weather and a great turnout for our first ever SocMM Fall Workshop.

The day wouldn’t have been possible without the help and trust of a number of people:

First, I would like to thank Holy Trinity Episcopal Day School (HTEDS) for being so open to hosting an event like the Workshop (and future Workshops) less than three months ago.   HTEDS provides a fantastic facility and even better people, so thank you to John Reger (CFO), Roz Williams (Director of Admissions), Michael Mullins (Head of School) and Laykin Zarro (Head of Communications).

Secondly, I want to thank the vendors/partners who provided us support and shared our vision in providing a great day for the local community.   These include soccer organizations: Soccer Shots, Bowie Boys and Girls Club (BBGC), Freestate Soccer Alliance and Soccerdome 3 (Landover).  Also our health and wellness vendors/partners: Gold’s Gym Fairwood, Sports Nutritionist Kait Fortunato and Dentist Dr. Nancy Duggan.

Thirdly, thank you to all the parents and kids who signed up and attended the workshop. We hope everyone was able to learn and take a few things away from the day whether it was lessons taught by the coaches on the field or lessons learned through Freddy Llerena’s speech.

One of the images that will be ingrained in my memory forever was when I asked one of our Workshop participants, Noel Brittain (pictured), if he had learned anything during the workshop, and he responded: “I learned the ball can take you places.”
